GlyCardial Diagnostics receives the EmprendedorXXI Award in Catalonia

The companies GlyCardial Diagnostics, based in the Barcelona Science Park, and Mitiga Solutions, have been honoured with the EmprendedorXXI Award in Catalonia, which is promoted by CaixaBank –through DayOne, its specialized division that provides banking services for technology and innovation companies and its investors- and awarded jointly by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, through Empresa Nacional de Innovación, S.A. (ENISA). The award ceremony was held yesterday in the Recinte Modernista of the Hospital de Sant Pau as part of the 'DayOne Innovation Summit’ event. Outside of the regional prize, next May 14th the sectorial EntrepreneurXXI Awards will be awarded to 6 nationwide companies with the highest growth potential in their sector.

GlyCardial Diagnostics, created in 2017, is a spin-off of the Institut de Recerca de l’Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (IR-HSCSP) and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), promoted by Dr Judit Cubedo. The biotech company is developing an in vitro diagnostic device (IVD) for the early detection of cardiac ischaemia and the prediction of the evolution of patients after an ischaemic event (when the circulation of blood through of the arteries of a particular area diminishes), currently one of the most common cardiac emergencies and whose early detection is crucial in order to avert subsequent complications and irreversible damage. The problem is that current techniques can only detect ischaemia once irreversible death of the cardiac tissue has already occurred.

Economic award and a trip to Silicon Valley

The EmprendedorXXI Awards reward companies with the greatest impact in a territory regardless of their sector. In Catalonia, these prizes are organised with the collaboration of ACCIÓ, the agency for company competitiveness of the Government of Catalonia; Barcelona Activa, the Barcelona City Council’s economic development agency, Barcelona Tech City and Barcelona Global.

One hundred and forty-two (142) Catalan companies participated in this edition. The two awardees, GlyCardial Diagnostics and Mitiga Solutions, will receive 5,000 Euros and access to an international accompaniment programme in Silicon Valley organised by Esade in collaboration with Singularity University, or an international course in Business Growth, Ignite Fast Track, University of Cambridge (United Kingdom).

Outside of the regional prize, on May 14, the EmprendedorXXI Awards will also recognize 6 companies from Spain and Portugal with the greatest growth potential in these sectors: Agro Tech, Tourism Tech, Fin&Insur Tech, Commerce Tech, Health Tech and Impact Tech. The winners of each sector will get 25,000 euros.
