Francesc Xavier Grau and Joan Gómez Pallarès visit the Barcelona Science Park

This afternoon, Francesc Xavier Grau, secretary for University and Research of the Generalitat (Government of Catalonia), and Joan Gómez Pallarès, director general for Research of the Generalitat, both paid an institutional visit to the Barcelona Science Park, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary as a centre for scientific, technological and entrepreneurial innovation.

The representatives of the Catalan Regional Government were welcomed by the vice-rector for Research of the Universitat de Barcelona (UB), Domènec Espriu; Joan Corominas, president of the Board of Trustees of the UB; Maria Terrades, CEO of PCB; Xavier Meneses, manager of Research Services at UB; and Anna Serra, Commercialization and Communication director at PCB.

After a brief work meeting, the attendees took a tour of the facilities of the Barcelona Science Park, which across a total surface area of 100,000 m2 is home to a dynamic and innovative community comprised of 2,700 professionals from over 100 public and private entities.

Francesc Xavier Grau and Joan Gómez Pallarès were also shown the most important equipment areas of the Universitat de Barcelona Scientific and Technological Centres (CCiTUB) by its director, Ramón Seoane, such as the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Unit, which is based in the Barcelona Science Park, as well as several scientific-technical infrastructures located in the facilities on Calle Lluís Solé y Sabarís.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the CCiTUB as a national and international reference point for research, innovation and transfer. Its services are requested by over one thousand users each year, who are from the Universitat de Barcelona (UB), other universities and public centres and a wide range of industry sectors.
