The PCB signs a cooperation agreement with the Riyadh Techno Valley

The Barcelona Science Park (PCB) and the i>Riyadh Techno Valley (), linked to the King Saud University (KSU) of Saudi Arabia, have signed today, Tuesday March 31, a cooperation agreement that defines several formulas to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, promote business initiatives in the academic setting and jointly boost collaboration in research projects and training activities. The agreement, which has been put into effect after the PCB's visit to the RTV a few weeks ago, has been signed by the general director of the Barcelona Science Park, Fernando Albericio, and by the rector of the King Saud University, Professor Abdullah Al-Othman.

This agreement is framed within the general collaboration agreement on higher education and research that was signed this week in Madrid by the Minister of Science and Innovation in Spain, Cristina Garmendia, and the Minister of Higher Education of Saudi Arabia, Khaled bin Mohamed. This agreement, born from a vocation for cooperation and the good relations that exist between both countries, aims to promote exchange, post-doctoral specialization and the access and shared use of big scientific facilities and research centres in both countries. Both ministers have expressed a mutual interest in fostering scientific collaboration in the use of natural resources and biomedicine.

The agreement signed by PCB and RTV focuses the scope of its interventions on the provision of consulting services by the PCB, aimed at identifying search projects that hold a commercial interest, as well as on the creation of a scholarship program to boost these projects. The agreement with RTV also foresees the creation of training programs to foster an entrepreneurial culture in the academic setting. This initiative has the support of the Lifelong Learning Institute of the University of Barcelona (IL-3). Additionally, the agreement foresees the creation of “satellite” laboratories on the RTV campuses to promote the cooperation of PCB-RTV in joint research projects and to facilitate the stay and hiring of visiting researchers and professors, and the organization of seminars and training courses.
