The Parc Científic de Barcelona takes part in Biospain 2014

From 19 to 21 September, the Galicia Congress & Exhibition Palace, in Santiago de Compostela, will host Biospain 2014, the major biotechnology event in southern Europe and 5th in the world ranking by the number of partnership meetings. The gathering, held every two years, has been organized by the Spanish Bioindustry Association (Asebio) and, in this seventh edition, it has also been cop-organized by the Government of Galicia, the University of Santiago de Compostela, the University of Vigo and the Santiago City Council. Catalonia will be represented by 60 companies and institutions, including the Parc Cientific de Barcelona and a large number of companies based at the premises of PCB.

BioSpain 2014 will be featured in a commercial exhibition space, an area for private business meetings, a forum of investors, sessions for country or clusters, the Biolatam Showcase, sessions of business trends and scientific sessions. In this edition – which coincides with the celebration of the Year of Biotechnology in Spain and the 15th anniversary of Asebio-, the event will include, a new novel model of “Open Innovation”, by virtue of which, the organizers will give the most relevant medical and scientific societies of the sector the honor to organize 10 thematic sessions. The Roche Institute will also be given the honor to organize the international seminar of personalized medicine. With this spirit of openness, the Stakeholders Forum has also be conceived, which provides target content aimed at non-professional visitors, attendees, students, job seekers, patients, consumers, and other civil society groups.

Biocat is once again collaborating with Biospain and is organizing one of the sessions on the scientific program. Specifically, Wednesday 24 September, Biocat CEO Montserrat Vendrell will moderate a session on acceleration models for innovative start-ups, held as part of the European clusters track. The Biospain program also includes a session organized by the European Transbio Sudoe project, in which Biocat is a partner. Transbio Sudoe will have a booth in the exhibition area of the fair, which the partners will make available to the companies and organizations from their respective regions. This will be the Biocat space at Biospain, providing support for Catalan organizations participating in the event.

The Parc Cientific de Barcelona also actively collaborates in the partnering sessions, one of the central themes of this event-, and a large number of organizations present at their stands will have the opportunity to have a prominent participation in the event, such as the National Center for Genome Analysis (CNAG), the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation (FBG), the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), and the companies Enantia, Intelligent Pharma, Iproteos, Kymos Pharma Services and Laboratorios Ordesa among others.

In the 2012 edition, Biospain was consolidated as one of the leading international platforms in the field of biotechnology in the fifth position when it achieved the 5th world position by number of partnering meetings and participating organizations: it gathered then 217 exhibitors, 762 companies and institutions, more than 1,850 delegate from 25 different countries and a total of 2,150 one-to-one meetings.
