The Parc Científic de Barcelona at the International BIO 2006

From 9 to 12 April, the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB, Barcelona Science Park) participated in the 2006 International BIO convention on biotechnology, held in Chicago. Organized by the Biotechnology Industry Organization (), the convention brought together more than 20,000 scientists, executive directors, investors, service providers, government representatives and specialized journalists with the aim to promote the exchange of information and initiatives in this sector.

The PCB, together with the BioRegion of Catalonia, and enterprises located at the PCB, such as Oryzon genomics and Advancell, had stands in the Spanish pavilion. With a total of 15 participant organizations, among these public bodies such as CIDEM (Generalitat de Catalunya) and Genoma España, or companies like PharmaMar, the pavilion was organized by the Spanish Institute of Overseas Commerce and the Economic & Commercial Affairs Office of the Spanish Embassy in Chicago.

During the convention, more than 24 countries presented their latest innovations in research and development of biotech products and services applied in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture and food, industry and environment. The Biotechnology Industry Organization represents more than one thousand enterprises, academic institutions, state centres and other organizations operating in the biotech sector in the US and in 31 other countries.
