The Oceanic Gymkhana at the PCB

The Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB, Barcelona Science Park), through the , is to participate in the to be held on Friday 15th April. This event is an educational game aimed at secondary school students and has been designed to disseminated scientific knowledge about marine ecosystems and to make young people aware of the importance of oceans.

During this activity, participants will do a test and attend a lecture at the PCB entitled “Travelling through the ocean: the carbon cycle”, which will address the studies performed by the Climate Research Laboratory in this field. These studies focus mainly on the importance of CO2 and, at ecosystem level, its circulation as a greenhouse gas –one of the most important–, the increase in which has been caused to a great extent by industrial activity. During this presentation, the PCB and the research carried out there will be explained.

Organized by the Catalan Biology Society and the Mediterranean Centre on Marine and Environmental Research of the CSIC, this event aims to increase students’ knowledge of biology and to inform them about the centres in Barcelona that are devoted to research, education and the dissemination of marine sciences. This activity is also a tribute to the researcher and senior professor of Ecology at the University of Barcelona, Ramon Margalef, who died a year ago.
