The DURSI brings out ICTINEUS, a new magazine to disseminate science in Catalan

The Directorate General for Research of the Dept. for Universities, Research and the Information Society (DURSI) has started the trimestrial publication of ICTINEUS, a new magazine for the dissemination of science. This publication is directed at the general public and will present news related to the research developed in Catalonia in a language that can be easily understood by the public at large.

The first issue, which can be consulted online at www.gencat.net/dursi/ictineus, was distributed on 21 December with the newspaper “20 minutos”, and devoted its cover page to Pierolapithecus catalanicus, the fossil of a primate 13 million years ago discovered in Catalonia by researchers at the Miquel Crusafont Paleontology Institute in Sabadell. The cover also reported the battle against malaria, and the promising results of a future vaccine; research undertaken by professor Pedro Alonso at the Dept. of Public Health at the UB and the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. In addition, the magazine also devotes a section to diverse authorities, among which are Josep Samitier, subdirector of the PCB and director of the del CREBEC Nanobioengineering Laboratory, Maria Casado, director of the Bioethics and Law Observatory, and Joan Santacana, director of the enterprise UB-Projects. All these groups and entities are located at the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB, Barcelona Science Park).
