The Bosh i Gimpera Foundation manages the tender of the Traverse project

The Bosh i Gimpera Foundation (FBG) located at the Barcelona Scientific Park– is performing a tender, which has been possible thanks to the Transcending Reality Activating Virtual Environment Responses through Sensory Enrichment (Traverse). The FBG operates, administers and funds the 2.4 million euros that the European Commission has granted to the project Traverse. One of the FBG responsibilities is the management of the tender that the International Research Projects Office of the UB is doing for the supply, installation and commissioning of the immersive virtual reality CAVE system.

This project is led by Mel Slater, professor at the Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats (ICREA) since 2006 and at the University College London (ULC) since 1997. The far reaching aim of this project is to provide the means for ‘transcending reality’: to use virtual reality to transcend the self, whereby participants in an immersive virtual reality (IVR) may have the strong illusion of transforming their bodies, and therefore have experiences in virtual reality that are not possible in physical reality. The goal is to use IVR for something that is genuinely new and uniquely possible within such systems, beyond the normal representational approach to VR which attempts mainly to faithfully simulate reality.
