Ruth Macklin will be conducting the 1st session of the Annual Seminar of the Bioethics and Law Association
Next Monday October 26, the first 2009-2010 academic year session of the Annual Seminar of the Bioethics and Law Association of the University of Barcelona (ABD), organised in collaboration with the PCB-UB Bioethics and Law Observatory (OBD) and the UB Unesco Chair in Bioethics, will take place at 7 p.m. at the UB Bioethics Unesco Chair headquarters –located at the Barcelona Science Park (C/ Baldiri Reixac 4, Tower D, 4th floor). Ruth Macklin, an internationally renowned specialist in bioethics, will talk about the "Fair benefits from research. What do we owe the subjects, the community or the country where research is carried out when such research is completed?"
Ruth Macklin has a PhD in philosophy and is a professor of Bioethics in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York (EE UU). At present she is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Bioethics , together with María Casado, director of the Bioethics and Law Observatory and holder of the UB UNESO chair. Since 1999, professor Ruth Macklin has been the co-director, together with Florencia Luna, a bioethicist and researcher- and a member of the Bioethics and Law Observatory- of the Training Program in Research Ethics in the Americas, an ethics and research programme granted by the Fogarty International Center of the National Institutes of Health (NHI) of the United States.
The activities conducted by the Bioethics and Law Association of the University of Barcelona aim to foster the promotion and dissemination of studies that address a comprehensive and integrating perspective of bioethics and its legal implications from a secular, pluralist and multidisciplinary point of view. The headquarters of this organization are at the Bioethics and Law Observatory of the UB, located at the Barcelona Science Park.
