Prous Institute for Collaborative Biomedical Research organizes a series of conferences on drug discovery

On 12 January the began a series of conferences devoted to drug discovery. To be held periodically in the auditorium of the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB, Barcelona Science Park), these presentations will be given by experts in several fields of chemistry, life sciences or super-computation and aim to provide a forum in which to analyse and develop strategies on critical aspects that arise in the distinct fields of pharmacy and biotechnology.

The opening session will be given by Joseph Prous, President of the Prous Institute for Collaborative Biomedical Research, who will present “Synthesizing insights from different intellectual disciplines into a multidimensional knowledge space”. In addition, Marc C, Nicklaus, principal researcher of Computer-Aided Drug Design (National Cancer Institute, Frederick, USA) will give a conference on databases, identifiers and internet services related to chemistry, and Jesús Salillas, director of Research and Development at Prous Science, will present the Bioepisteme® for the prediction and modelling of pre-clinical profiles of molecular compounds.

The Prous Institute for Collaborative Biomedical Research, associated with the company and located in the PCB, develops research lines applied to the treatment of neurodegenerative, metabolic and immune system diseases. Its research is based on the use of data-mining techniques, statistical and chemo-informatic analysis and techniques taken from combinatorial chemistry, molecular biology and functional genomics.
