PCB website judged as the best among 200 studied by the International Association of Science and Technology Parks

A report produced by the International Association of Science and Technology Parks (IASP) has appraised the website of the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB, Barcelona Science Park) as the best from 200 sites of science and technology parks examined throughout the world. This report was presented at the XXII IASP World Conference held from 18- 21 September in Beijing.

To draw up this report, IASP studied 200 websites of science and technology parks in order to establish the technical and content quality of these Internet pages. According to its findings, the PCB website falls in the highest category, achieving 98 points out of 100, the highest rank given in this study. The ranking of this website is markedly higher than the average of 58 points reached by others in the South of Europe. The appraisal was done by visual inspection of the sites and using criteria of design, customisation, navigability, presentation of information and level of updating.

Among the positive points of the PCB site emphasized in the report is the availability of three linguistic versions: Catalan, Spanish and English; the data base of the entities located at the park; and the distinct search engines. In contrast, the internal navigation systems were highlighted for improvement.

The PCB website, which is managed by the Communications and Scientific Diffusion Dept., was set up in September 2003 with the aim to provide a rich source of data and updated information on the PCB project. Since its establishment, the website has sought to become a platform from which to offer information on the entities located in PCB facilities. In addition, it serves as an information and communications tool between researchers at the park and those that work in other entities.
