Màrius Rubiralta elected new rector of the UB

Màrius Rubiralta has been chosen as new rector of the Universitat de Barcelona (UB, University of Barcelona) after obtaining 64% of the weighted vote in the second round of elections held on Tuesday 24 May. Dr. Rubiralta, until now the director of the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB), will resign from this post in order to take up his new position as rector of the UB and president of the Fundació Parc Científic de Barcelona.

Dr. Rubiralta obtained 35 % of the weighted vote from university lecturers, 6 % from members of the remaining teaching and research staff, 19 % from students and 4 % from administrative service staff.

This is the first time that the election of a UB rector has been based on the universal weighted vote. The vote from lecturers acounted for 51% of the total, while teaching and research staff accounted for 9%, students 30% and administrative service staff 10%.
