La Pedrera hosts the granting of awards to «Tutoring for Secondary School Students»

This Saturday, April 20, the Auditorium of La Pedrera hosted the awards for best research program «Tutoring for Secondary School Students», promoted and coordinated by the Barcelona Science Park (PCB). The event was attended by Salvador Maluquer, general director of PCB; Salvador Garcia, director of the Area for Knowledge and Research of the Catalunya-La Pedrera, Foundation; Josep M. Fernandez, collaborator in the Research in Secondary Schools and biology professors from the University of Barcelona, along with award-winning students, their tutors at the PCB and their schools.

The program «Tutoring for Secondary School Students» welcomes freshmen students in their first year of secondary school who have to start their research project. This program offers them the opportunity to carry out their practicum at PCB laboratories supervised by a researcher who also advises them during the preparation of the work. In addition to the help provided by the tutor from the PCB, secondary school students are also under the supervision of their regular schoolteacher, who is ultimately responsible for the project. To help them out in their task, PCB tutors will be advised by a university researcher and a secondary teacher that will act as coordinator.

The program «Tutoring for Secondary School Students» ends each year with the presentation of three awards from the Catalunya-La Pedrera Foundation, to the best research projects. The award ceremony is held in a stand at the “Live research” fair that will be held at La Pedrera from 23 to 25 April 2013. The awards for the 2012-2013 edition went to:
