Get closer to Science at La Pedrera

Today started the 11th edition of the Fair "Live Research", which will be held at La Pedrera until Thursday 25 April. The objective of this event, which is organized annually by the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB) and the Catalonia- La Pedrera Foundation is to show several projects carried out in research centres and institutes in Barcelona to bring research closer to all citizens and to promote scientific vocations among the young.

The Fair started this morning with a tour that included the presence of Enric I. Canela, Vice rector for Science Policies at the University of Barcelona; Salvador Garcia, director of the Knowledge and Research of the Catalonia- La Pedrera Foundation, Catalonia, and Maluquer Salvador, director general of the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB). The tour was led by Jesús Purroy, technical director of Scientific and Technological services at the PCB.

The fair, organized for the eleventh consecutive year by the Parc Científic de Barcelona and the Catalonia – La Pedrera Foundation, will bring to this emblematic event six research groups from various research centres and institutions in Barcelona so that visitors can participate in experiments related to their current research projects with the same tools and materials they normally use. To encourage interaction with visitors, each booth wil present an enigma that visitor will have to solve following a scientific method.

Research centres participating in this 11th edition are: the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), both based at the Parc Científic de Barcelona, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG ), the Centre for Brain and Cognition at the University Pompeu Fabra (UPF), the Cognitive Neuroscience Research Group, University of Barcelona (UB) and the Medical Optics Group at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO).

The Fair “Live Research” is part of the Knowledge Area at the Catalonia-La Pedrera Foundation and the science outreach program “Research in Society” organized by the PCB, which offers more than 120 activities involving 4,500 people each year. This initiative is being carried out with support from the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) – Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO).

The activity is free and open to everyone. Visiting hours are from 10:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 20:00 upon previous reservation. From 18:00 pm, onwards admission is free.
