Jordi Sabater Pi is the special guest at the presentation of the new Barcelona Zoo project

On 30 December, Jordi Sabater Pi, the director of the a href="p1451.asp" class="email">Documentation Centre Sabater Pi Collection, located at the Barcelona Science Park, attended the formal presentation of the project to redesign the zoo in the Parc de la Ciutadella and construct the future Marine Zoo on the seafront in the Besòs area. The event, under the slogan "Un Zoo que val per Dos" (One Zoo that is worth Two), was presided over by the mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu, and included a celebration in the existing Ciutadella facilities that was open to the public.

The new comprehensive Barcelona Zoo will occupy a total of 18 hectares on the two sites: 10 hectares for land animals in the Parc de la Ciutadella; and 8 for the Marine Zoo. Thus, the area of the Zoo will increase by 5 hectares, from the existing 13 to the 18 hectares that are planned for 2015, when the future Barcelona Zoo will begin operation. The project will cost 200 million euros and involves changing the layout of the terrestrial Zoo, in order to recreate different habitats. This will enable the Parc de la Ciutadella to be altered.
