INSA-UB organizes a series of conferences on food safety

Next Thursday January 22 the "Conferences on Food Safety: Science, Technology and Legislation", which aims to create a space for experts from different fields to update and contrast their knowledge and ideas, will be held at the Great Hall of the School of Pharmacy of the University of Barcelona. The conference is geared towards researchers, professionals, companies of the sector and administrations, and has been jointly organized by the Nutrition and Food Safety Research Institute of the University of Barcelona (INSA-UB) –an organization associated with the PCB- and the Tomás Pascual Institute for Nutrition and Health.

Technology, administration and food safety are the main topics of the lectures and round tables forecasted in the programme and will include the participation of experts such as Albert Bosch, professor of the Department of Microbiology of the UB; Miquel Borràs, director of INSA-UB’s Toxicology Research Center and head of the PCB’s Toxicology Platform; Claudi Mans, professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering and delegate of the dean for the Torribera Food Campus; Jordi Serratoso, member of the European Food Safety Authority, and Eduard Mata of the Catalan Agency for Food Safety, amongst others.

The event will be inaugurated by the UB’s vice-dean of research, Jordi Alberch, and by the president of the Tomás Pascual Institute for Nutrition and Health, Ricardo Martí, and will also include a presentation by Miquel Moretó, director of INSA-UB. Antoni Díaz-Noguera, dean of the School of Pharmacy, will be in charge of the closing remarks of the conferences on food safety.

The School of Pharmacy, the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation, the Barcelona Science Park, the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition, and the Catalan Agency for Food Safety, amongst others, have collaborated in the organization of these conferences. The conferences’ scientific coordination has been managed by Mª Carmen Vidal, professor of the Department of Nutrition and Bromatology of the School of Pharmacy of the UB and member of the executive board of the INSA-UB. The technical coordinator has been Alfonso Perote, director of projects of the Tomás Pascual Institute for Nutrition and Health.
