Carmen Plasencia receives a 2017 ‘femtalent’ award for her Professional Career

Carme Plasencia, CEO and cofounder of biotech Aromics, based at the Barcelona Science Park, has won the femtalent award for her Professional Career. Greenaltech and Seed&Click, also located at PCB, received special mention in the categories of 'Innovation and Organization” with We talent values,  respectively. The presentation of awards took place last Frisay at the Activa Barcelona Technology Park as part of the 2017 edition of the femtalent fòrum, which brought together over 200 attendees and 10 lecturers from the field of entrepreneurship, finances and social innovation.

The femtalent platform has delivered its five annual awards in a ceremony headed by Teresa Pitarch, president of the Catalan Institute for Women; Sara Berbel, director of Barcelona Activa, and Josep M Piqué, president of the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP), president of the Network of Science and Technology Parks of Catalonia (XPCAT) and CEO of La Salle Technova.

Carme Plasencia, CEO and co-founder of Aromics, received the award for her professional career “with pride and satisfaction because it is a recognition of the effort and work done, both scientifically as head of Aromics, a biotech project I started 11 years ago with exceptional partners: Narcis, Inma and Irene. Without them, it would not have been possible. I also would like to thank all of those who have helped me in this way: partners, mentors, employees, customers, partners and institutions, especially Narcis Clavell for his unconditional support, and PCB as incubator of our project”, said Plasencia.

Aromics is a start-up created out of Carme Plasencia´s experience in molecular biiology applied to cáncer with the aim of transferring scientific advances to clinical practice.

Since its creation, Aramics has been combining the development of its own products with an activity of services to third parties that has enabled the sustained growth of the company. Its business model revolves around a high R & D activity, endowed with about 70% of the company´s budget. During these eleven years, the company has mobilized more than € 5M from the contributions of its founding partners, revenue from preclinical services, and public support. The company´s portfolio includes projects supported by the Catalan public administration, most recently within the framework of the Communities RIS3cat within the Catalunya ERDF 2014-2020 program.

… “Lessons learned? There are no unattainable goals if you have passion and enthusiasm for what you do. To attain these goals, you must also work hard, assume your errors, overcome obstacles, live and overcome good and bad times, and most importantly,  persevere, try to surround yourself with good advisors, colleagues and a good team, and always learn everything you can in the process. Our goal is to grow towards the development of therapies to reach patients. That is why we have opened a crowdfunding campaign in order to bring our clinical drug for the treatment of malignant mesothelioma and which will allow us to take a small step forward”, said Carme Plasencia.

Now it is the time to: value yourself!

One more time, the femtalent forum has become a privileged space for sharing best practices and experiences headed by women in our economy and society. Under the slogan “És el moment: valora’t”, (Now it is the time: value yourself), this year has focused on enhancing the value of women´s talent, encouraging them to value their career, taking a closer look at various experiences of entrepreneurs who finance innovative projects or who have  received funding. The event ended, as customary, with the presentation of awards recognizing individuals and organizations with femlatent values. Besides Carme Plasencia, the winners this year were: Txell Costa, founder and CEO of Costa Txell Group (Emerging Talent); Ship2B Foundation (Organization with femtalent values); Ideas4all company (Innovation) and the journalist Jordi Évole (Communication) for his program “Salvados” on La Sexta TV network.
