Infinitec Activos initiates its expansion in Canada

, located at the Barcelona Science Park, has established a strategic alliance with the French company Gattefossé to launch the distribution of its products in Canada in 2010 alongside this company. Catalan biotechnology, dedicated to the design, development and manufacturing of high tech active ingredients for the cosmetic industry is already present in countries such as the United States, France, China, Korea and Japan by means of the agreements established with over 45 distributors.

On the other hand, and with the aim of consolidating its presence in the North-American market, Infinitec has initiated a negotiation process with a Canadian biotech to adhere to a R&D&i project eligible for government funding by means of “Canadeka”, an institutional programme.

Created in 2004 by Josep M. Borràs and Alfons Hidalgo, Infinitec Actius is a company with shares held by both co-founding partners -who have a 42% stake of the shares – by the capital risk companies of Innova 31 (in which the Barcelona Science Park, the Polytechnical University of Catalonia, the Caixa d’Estalvis de Catalunya, Unión Interiores and EDM Holding have a stake) and by BCN Emprèn (36%). In 2008, in order to ensure the continuity of the project, Infinitec allowed a group of private investors to become shareholders of 20% of the company’s shares.

The activity of Infinitec Activos is focused on the synthesis of biomolecules (peptides) and release systems, based on the fundamental principles of nanoscience, for the cosmetic industry. Its manufacturing plant is located in Montornès del Vallès and its R&D&i laboratories in the bioincubator of the Barcelona Science Park. In spite of its young existence, this Catalan biotech is carrying out consolidated projects with renowned companies such as Estée Lauder, La Prairie, L’Oréal, Unilever and Intercos, amongst others.
