Visit the exhibition “Las Caras de la Meningitis” in the Barcelona Science Park!

From 7 to 25 February, the whole PCB Community can come see Las Caras de la Meningitis (The Faces of Meningitis), an exhibition in the Towers corridor. The Barcelona Science Park, through the Research in Society programme, has joined this initiative of biotechnology firm New Born Solutions in collaboration with the Spanish Meningitis Association (Asociación Española contra la Meningitis – AEM).

Through personal stories, the exhibition shows how the after effects of this disease last a lifetime. These effects come at great cost: personal (physically and psychologically), financial, social, etc.

The incidence of meningitis is low, meaning there are few cases each year, but the after effects are permanent, for the rest of their lives. This is why the cumulative number of people affected year after year has serious repercussions on society as a whole. It is therefore significant to quantify how many people are affected by meningitis in Spain and find a solution to help measure this.

New Born Solutions, in collaboration with the Barcelona Science Park Research in Society programme, has created an activity for secondary students, who will be participating on 10, 17 and 24 February, to visit the exhibition, discover the medical device the company has created for non-invasive detection and monitoring, and to take part in a Challenger, with students using their problem-solving skills. This activity will help make the students, who are of an age in which the incidence of meningitis is high, more aware of the impact of meningitis, and by extension other minority diseases, and the importance of vaccination and the health technology innovations that can offer up solutions to real issues.

Come check it out!
