UB to participate in the development of a biotech business park in the 22@ district

Friday 30 June marked the signing of a collaboration agreement between the UB rector, Màrius Rubiralta, the Mayor of Barcelona, Joan Clos, and the president of 22@ Barcelona, Miquel Barceló. This agreement will enable the Universitat de Barcelona(UB, University of Barcelona) to develop a series of activities in the district known as 22@Barcelona.

Through the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB, Barcelona Science Park), the UB will promote the 22@Bioenterprise project. This initiative seeks to increase the number of biotech enterprises that have completed an incubation period in science parks in this area of the city. This business park will be developed as part of the agreement between the BioRegion and the CIDEM, 22@Barcelona, the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park and the UPF.

In addition, the activities undertaken by IL3, the continuous education centre of the UB, will be included in the initiatives of the project Espai de Relació 22@Barcelona, which promotes relations between people and organizations through new communication channels that favour professional qualification and business innovation. Moreover, the Barcelona City Council will provide the UB with a total of 4,800 m2 of facilities located next to the present IL3 site. The university will devote this space to research, teaching and technology transfer activities linked to the IT and media sectors.
