Transmural Biotech, second finalist for the Entrepreneurs Award of Caixa Manresa

Transmural Biotech, a technology-based company –located at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) as an associate entity- has won the second place Entrepreneurs Award of Caixa Manresa, for its project endoVV, an innovative enhanced reality system for guiding surgery in laparoscopic interventions. The Company is a spin-off of the Clinical Hospital of Barcelona and the University of Barcelona, and was founded in June 2009 by telecommunications engineer Ivan Amat and doctor Eduard Eduard Gratacós, head of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Service of the Clinical Hospital of Barcelona. His "expertise" lies in the application of knowledge in the imaging process and analysis for the development of innovative medical and exton tic systems. The winner of the sixth Entrepreneurs Award of Caixa Manresa, granted yesterday Tuesday June 29, was Regenear, which focuses on the development and commercialization of biokits for cartilage regeneration.

Transmural Biotech has the support of ACC1Ó, the Generalitat de Catalonia’s agency that supports the competitiveness of Catalan companies, with Génesi capital and a NEBT loan, and has been advised by the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation –based at the Barcelona Science Park- throughout its creation process. Although it is still a very young company, Transmural is already working on different large research projects, which are financially backed by internationally renowned entities such as the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union, which funds the cost of highly qualified research staff and knowledge transfer with the Marie Curie Industry-Academia Partnership and Pathways (IAPP) grants, and the Ministry of Science and Innovation, which funds a part of the line aimed towards the development of quantitative imagine biomarkers by cardiovascular diseases within the cvREMOD consortium (cvremod.com) created with the help of the CENIT-E programme.

In 2005 Caixa Manresa created the Entrepreneus Award with the aim of fostering entrepreneurial spirit and business initiatives. By means of this award Caixa Manresa wishes to help young entrepreneurs by promoting innovative projects and companies that renew the entrepreneurial tissue of Catalonia. This award is endowed with 18,000 Euros. The winning project also receives the support and advice of Caixa Manresa and ACC1Óin the research of the funding needed for its development.
