Thera collaborates in the development of the first free automatic translation system for the official languages in Spain

The company , in collaboration with several other enterprises and universities around Spain has joined a R+D project which aims to develop the first automatic translation system that covers the four official languages in Spain. In contrast to the other computer programmes available for automatic translation, this one will be free of charge and users will be able to download it onto computers and place it on web pages.

The new system, which will allow translations from Spanish, Catalan, Basque (Euskara) and Galician (Galego), is schedule to become available at the beginning of 2006. Financed in part by the PROFIT programme for technical innovation of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce, this project is coordinated by the Basque foundation and the linguistic engineering company . In addition, the following participate in thiis initiative: the research centre , part of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia; the group at the University of Alicante; the research group at the University of the Basque Country; the Galician firm , and the at the University of Vigo. A the result of this project, several new cooperation agreements have been established between enterprises working in the field of linguistic technology in Spain.
