The PCB receives the secondary award for best practice in science and technology parks of APTE

Ignasi Belda, CEO of the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), has received this morning the secondary prize of the 'Award for best practice in science and technology parks of Apte' in the category of parks with an age of more than 10 years. The award ceremony has been delivered within the framework of the XV International Conference of the Association of Science and Technology Parks of Spain (APTE), which is being held today at the Gipuzkoa Science and Technology Park under the name "Beyond 2020: disruptive technologies".

The Investment Fund of the Barcelona Science Park, with a legal structure independent from that of the park, will bring together the investments from third parties that want to invest and take advantage of real estate profitability. The model is for the fund to invest directly in the civil works of space conditioning and refurbishing. When customers start occupying these spaces, they will have to pay the rent directly to the fund, until such time as the fund recovers the investment plus an annual interest. The contract between the fund and the park will not be completed until the former has recovered the investment plus the annual profitability.

With the start up of this fund, the Park aims to continue its growth and expand its impact on society and, particularly, in the field of the creation or growth of new technology and science-based companies.

The award for best practice in science and technology parks was created by APTE in 2014 to recognize the new best practices carried out by the management of the parks in its scope. In this sense both the innovative aspect of the initiative and its impact on entities Science and Technology Park and its environment is valued.he award has two categories: one for PCTs with less than 10 years old and one for those with more than 10 years old.

In this fourth edition, the winner of the category of parks with more than 10 years of operation was the Science and Technology Park of Bizkaia for the Aeronautics Advanced Manufacturing Center (CFAA). The Barcelona Science Park was recognized with one of two second prizes as was the Andalusia Technology Park for their Inter-company Mentoring Pilot programe.
