The Ministry of Science grants 7 million Euros to the Barcelona Science Park

The Ministry of Science and Innovation will grant –to be allocated to PlanE– seven million Euros to the Barcelona Science Park Foundation for the construction of Phase II of the Park, which is currently underway and which will end in 2011, increasing the Park's surface area to 96,000m². This endowment was approved on Friday October 30, via the Royal Decree 1641/2009 (cve: BOE-A-2009-17247), which establishes the regulation of subsidies to eight managing entities of science and technological parks, for a total amount of 30 million Euros granted to carry out certain infrastructure projects. The Barcelona Science Park will receive the highest endowment of those granted to funding beneficiaries.

This 30 million Euro grant is framed within the action package valued at 490 million Euros that the Spanish Economy and Employment Stimulation Plan (PlanE) destines to R + D + I in three prioritary sector areas: health, energy and international excellence. The subsidy that the Barcelona Science Park will receive is included within the areas of Energy and international excellence settings. The eight Spanish parks –previously assessed by the Ministry of Science and Innovation via their technical bodies- have been selected for having a high degree of scientific-technical activity, necessary to translate the funds received into immediate improved quality occupation and knowledge industry, as stipulated by the Royal Decree.
