The Barcelona Science Park promotes its internalization in BIO Philadelphia 2019

The Barcelona Science Park (PCB) participates in 2019 BIO International Convention, the largest global event for the biotech and pharmaceutical sector hosted annually by the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO). This year the meeting will take place from 3 to 6 June in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (EUA) and is expected to attract more than 16,000 attendees and 1,800 exhibitors from 67 countries.

The Barcelona Science Park will have its own space inside the Spanish pavilion (estand #2301), which is coordinated by ICEX Spain Trade and Investment in collaboration with the Economic and Commercial Office of Spain in Chicago. In this pavilion –which will be shared by all companies, regardless of which bioregion they are from– several entities based in the Park will be present, such as Esteve, ProteoDesign and Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona). Other entities of the PCB Community, such as SOM Biotech, will also be present with their own delegation.

On June 4, concurring with the BIO Exhibitor Hospitality Receptions, ICEX organizes in the Spanish pavilion the seminar “Financing innovative biotech companies in Spain, Europe and internationally”, where Spanish and American companies and institutions will meet.

Biocat will attend the fair and help spread the word on the BioRegion of Catalonia presence in Philadelphia –which will be represented by about thirty entities. On June 5 there will be a networking meeting of the Catalan delegation in Philadelphia organized by ACCIÓCatalan Government Trade & Investment Office in New York with the collaboration of Biocat.

The most important partnering event in the global biotechnology sector

The BIO International Convention is the world’s most important event for the biotechnology industry. It is organized by the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO), which represents more than 1,100 biotechnology companies, academic institutions, state biotechnology centers and related organizations in the United States and in 30 other nations.

The convention organized every year in a different American city, seeks to facilitate contact between companies and institutions with potential partners and investors, promote the signing of agreements, stimulate markets and promote the biotechnology sector in their respective regions of origin.

The 2018 edition was held in Boston, with 37 Catalan companies and organizations. The event brought together more than 18,000 industry leaders from 67 countries and hosted 46,000 partnering meetings.

Barcelona Innovation Day

In the context of the participation of the biotech ecosystem in the BIO International Convention, and of the Catalan universities in the NAFSA 2019 Annual Conference & Expo in Washington DC, on May 31 Boston will host the first Barcelona Innovation Day, the largest display to date of Barcelona’s knowledge ecosystem, abroad powered by SciTech DiploHub –Barcelona Science and Technology Diplomacy Hub– with the collaboration of Harvard Kennedy School, the Delegation of the Government of Catalonia to the US, ACCIÓ and Biocat.

This event will bring together the most relevant stakeholders from academia, startups, industry, and public institutions from Barcelona and Boston to strengthen relationships between both ecosystems, promote the excellence of their research institutions and companies, and showcase best practices in science, technology and innovation, particularly in the fields of life sciences and AI.
