The welcome ceremony to participants of the Spend the summer at the Park! program was held tyesterday, Monday, July 18. The aim of this initiative –organized annually by the Barcelona Science Park (PCB)– is to bring research closer to students of any university in the world through their participation in projects currently being carried out in research groups, research centers and companies based at the PCB.

The duration of the Spend the summer at the Park! is from 2 to 3 months between July and September, with a minimum commitment of 25 hours at week. This year, 13 candidates have been selected from over 81 applications submitted. Internships are conducted in groups that focus their activities mainly in the field of biomedicine and biotechnology.

The welcome ceremony was conducted by Mercè Gómez, Communication Manager of PCB, and Noemí Rubio, Safety and Health Technical at PCB. Participating students will be enrolled in Developmental Neurobiology and Regeneration Group Lab. (University of Barcelona), the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), the biotech Aromics and DTI Foundation, located at the PCB.

This is the fifteenth consecutive year that the Barcelona Science Park offers this activity as part of its outreach and science dissemination program Research in Society. In previous editions have featured the participation of over 350 students and according to evaluation polls, both young students and tutors are very satisfied with this collaboration initiative, a fact confirmed by the long-term contact the students keep with the research group they worked after they completed their practicum period at PCB.
