The 11th edition of the fair «Live research» ends with 1,300 visitors

A total of 1,200 people visited the last edition of the fair "Live Research", which took place from 23 to 25 April at La Pedrera. The initiative, which is organized annually by the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) and the La Pedrera-Catalonia Foundation, aims to bring research to all citizens and to promote interest in science among young people. Because of this, most of the attendees have been secondary school students from 40 different schools in Catalonia.

All visitors had the opportunity to learn about some of the research projects that scientists from six Catalan research institutes and centres are currently undertaking. Forty researches in total moved their laboratory equipment to La Pedrera for three days so that attendees could participate in their experiments with the same tools and materials they normally use. To encourage interaction with the public, an enigma was set up at each stand that visitors had to solve following the scientific method.

Participating research centers and institutes in this 11th edition include: the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), both based at the PCB, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), the Center for Brain Cognition at the University Pompeu Fabra (UPF ), the Cognitive Neuroscience Research Group, University of Barcelona (UB) and the Medical Optics Group at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO).

The fair «Live Research» is part of the Area of Knowledge of La Pedrera-Catalonia Foundation and the science outreach program “Research in Society” of the PCB, which offers more than 120 activities involving 4,500 people each year. This initiative is carried out with support from the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) – Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO).
