Sylvie Bove, new CEO of EIT Health

Sylvie Bove has been appointed as new CEO of the EIT Health, the Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) for healthy living and active aging, promoted by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). The Spanish node, EIT Health Spain, headed by the University of Barcelona (UB) with the support from Biocat, has its headquarters at Barcelona Science Park (PCB) and is composed of 50 core partners and 90 associate partners from the public and private sectors, leaders in their fields and committed to innovation in health. Bove took on the position on September 1

Bove is a French citizen and has 20 years experience  in the life sciences, including positions in business development and global marketing. She was responsible for launching a number of new products and global brands at healthcare companies such as Coloplast A/S and Ferring Pharmaceuticals and she helped found the Copenhagen Healthtech Cluster.

“I’m proud to be part of this organisation, which aims at bringing new research results to the patients faster,” said Bove. “My goal is to make a difference by contributing to the change that needs to take place in the life sciences in Europe in order to address future health challenges even more effectively.”

The EIT Health, funded in December 2014, is a consortium that actually includes more than 144 leading companies, universities, institutes and research centers in fourteen European countries. With a total budget of 2,100 million Euros, it is one of the most ambitious initiatives developed with public funding in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship for healthy living and active aging. By the end of 2016, the consortium expects to generate about 80 new business ideas and reach 140 by 2018. The forecast is to generate seventy start-ups per year and involve a million students in the Health programs promoted by EIT (EIT Alumni).

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is an independent organization of the European Union founded in 2008 to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the whole of Europe. It brings together academic institutions, research laboratories and leading companies with the aim of promoting  dynamic cross-border partnerships -the so-called Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs)– that develop new products and services and are committed to a new generation of entrepreneurs. So far, five KICs have been formed in various sectors: Climate-KIC, EIT ICT Labs, KIC InnoEnergy, EIT Raw Materials and EIT Health, to which two more will be added: Food4future KIC (2016) and Urban mobility KIC (2018).
