La Fundació Bosch i Gimpera has signed an agreement with the Arts Santa Mònica

The University of Barcelona (UB), through the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation () –located at the Barcelona Science Park- has signed an agreement with the centre to collaborate in art, science and communication projects. Arts Santa Mònica wishes to broaden citizens' perspective on culture using a multidisciplinary and contemporary approach by opening research laboratories to any type of artistic creativity that is seeking new contents and themes, creation tools or languages linked to the world of science.

Josep Perelló, professor of the Department of Fundamental Physics of the UB and consultant in the science area at the Arts Santa Mònica centre, within the framework of the new team led by Vicenç Altaiço, explains that “the new agreement with the UB, managed by the Bosh i Gimpera Foundation, will contribute to profiling the cultural and technological perspective of the Centre’s intervention lines and the 2009 exhibition programme in its totality, and especially, of the Laboratory space, a borderline experimentation territory between the scientific and artistic research worlds”.

Arts Santa Mònica will initiate the activities relating to the new project in March 2009. The new spaces will strengthen the links between culture and citizens, integrating science and communication into the world of art, and will accommodate exhibitions on the interrelationships that exist between science and art; the new edition of New Frontiers in Art, Science and Thought Meetings; a meeting involving several creative fields and the space sciences during the Aeronautic and Space Week, and a sample of the Professor Jordi Sabater Award, in collaboration with the Social Brain Chair (UAB), the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) and the Barcelona Zoo, etc.

Arts Santa Mònica –located in a unique building of the Rambla de Barcelona, an old convent dating back to 1636, declared a historical-artistic monument of national interest – is a space where several fields pertaining to contemporary artistic creation and science, thought and communication converge and cross, with the objective of tackling the dialogue between the our society’s local perspective and global dimension. This centre employs a pluridisciplinary approach in order to serve as a cultural space as well as a generator of ideas, projects and research in collaboration with university and academic institutions, research institutes and centres for artistic, scientific and communicative production and dissemination.
