Juan Carlos Kaski, new Chief Medical Officer of GlyCardial Diagnostics

GlyCardial Diagnostics, based in the Barcelona Science Park, announces the appointment of Prof. Juan Carlos Kaski as Chief Medical Officer. The company –a spinoff of the Research Institute of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (IR-HSCSP) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), is conducting a clinical trial to validate the performance of Apo J-Glyc as a novel biomarker for the early detection of Myocardial Ischaemia.

 

Juan-Carlos Kaski is Professor of Cardiovascular Science and the Immediate-Past Director of the Cardiovascular and Cell Sciences Research Institute at St George’s, University of London. He is also Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at St George’s Hospital and the Royal Brompton Hospital, in London. 

Prof. Kaski’s research is focused on microvascular angina and on biomarkers of rapid coronary artery disease progression, myocardial ischemia and cardiovascular risk. He has authored over 500 papers in peer review journals and more than 150 invited papers and book chapters. He has also edited eight books on cardiovascular topics, including one on cardiac biomarkers and the recent edition of the European Society of Cardiology Handbook of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy. He also regularly lectures around the world on his research topics.

He was President of the International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy (ISCP) and Chairman of the ESC Working Group on Microcirculation. Moreover, he is Editor-in-Chief of European Cardiology Review, Immediate-past Deputy Editor of the Journal of Cardiology  and editorial board member of over 20 major cardiology journals.

Prof. Kaski’s is Doctor Honoris Causa of several universities worldwide, Fellow of many international scientific societies and the recipient of numerous awards for his contribution to medical science and education, including the Gold Medal of the Sociedad Española de Cardiologia (SEC), the Universitat de Fukushima Cardiology award and the Doctor of Science title of the University of London.

Due to his extensive expertise in the field of myocardial ischemia, Juan-Carlos Kaski will be key in the clinical development of the Glycardial Diagnostics.
