Josep A. Planell, director of the IBEC, participates in the cycle of Conferences titled “Innovation and Creativity” of the mNACTEC

Tomorrow Thursday June 17, at 7 p.m., the Museum of Science and Technique of Catalonia (mNACTEC) will be hosting the fourth conference of the cycle titled "Innovation and Creativity". The topic is "Challenges in Bioengineering and Nanomedicine for the improvement of Health and Quality of Life", and will be conducted by Josep A. Planell, director of the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), located at the Barcelona Science Park. In this presentation Planell will address advances in medicine and surgery which have always been tied to advances in science and technology, and specifically to fields such as bioengineering and nanomedicine, and he will also discuss regenerative medicine, which constitutes a beacon of hope of the 21st century by being a promising field for early diagnosis of diseases and, at the same time, for the application of personalized therapies to patients.

Josep A. Planell (Barcelona, 1951) is the director of the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), a research centre based at the Barcelona Science Park, which is structured in six programmes: Cellular biotechnology; Biomaterials, implants and tissue engineering; Biomechanics and cellular biophysics; Nanobioengineering; Robotics and biomedical imaging, and Medical Signals and Instrumentation. Dr. Planell’s main research areas are biomaterials, as well as tissue engineering for its application in regenerative medicine. In 2001 he won the Distinction in Research Promotion Award of the Generalitat de Catalonia. He is an elected member of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona. In 2006 he received the City of Barcelona Award in the area of Research and Technology.
