Inveready, based at the Barcelona Science Park, enters the capital of 3scale

Inveready Seed Capital, a risk capital company, based at the Barcelona Science Park, that specialises in investing in technological projects at their early stages has entered the capital of 3Scale Networks –a technological start-up company that centres its activity on the web services market -through a round of financing in the amount of one million euros. In addition to Inveready, other business angels and the actual management team of 3Scale have also participated in the operation

This is the tenth investment that Inveready Seed Capital makes in the last 18 months, amounting to nearly 3 million Euros, and therefore making it one of the most active investifes during the seed phase in Europe.

With this operation the company –who managed resources in the amount of M€– takes a step forward in its diversification strategy, always within sectors considered as “technological” and of “high growth”, such as the web services market, where the number of applications based on this technology is doubled every six months, revealing an extremely favourable business opportunity that is potentially comparable to the evolution of on-line payment portals in the expansion phase of electronic commerce web sites.

The objective of 3scale –created in 2008 by Martin Tantow, director of T-Mobile and Oliver Wyman, director of Semantic Web Research at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Steven Willmott- is to become a world leader in the provision of monitoring and payment solutions in the market of Web Services technologies, which operate by means of APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), a series of new protocols and standards for data exchange between applications that are executed in different servers.

At present, this Barcelona-based start up has carried out a market launch of a platform for the management and authentication of applications based on Web Services technologies, and which has already been commercialised to more than 25 reference clients such as Softonic or Wine.com.

3scale, which also has offices in Sunnyvale, California (United States), invoiced 100,000 euros last year and hopes to register sales of one million euros in 2010. Thanks to the recent round of financing the company forecasts it will have approximately 1 million euros for its next development phase.

“3Scale is a fantastic endeavour for a sector that is currently booming. The 3Scale team encompasses ability and experience, with the enthusiasm of a completely international team, which in hardly even 12 months has extended its activity throughout the United States and Europe” , says Josep Maria Echarri, managing director of Inveready Seed Capital..
