ICREA Research Professor Nuria Montserrat will coordinate from IBEC the new ISCIII Biobanks and Biomodels Platform

The Institute of Health Carlos III (ISCIII) grants Nuria Montserrat, ICREA Research Professor and group leader at IBEC in the Barcelona Science Park– the coordination of the new “SCIII Biobanks and Biomodels Platform” and a budget of 406,500 euros to carry it out for the next three years.  Dra Montserrat has obtained additional funding of 354,442 euros as a member of this cross-cutting national infrastructure, which will manage biological samples of disease by coordinating the supply and generation of organoids and/or animal models, 3D printing of organs and tissues.

Redirect the platforms of theInstitute of Health Carlos III (ISCIII) to face three major challenges. To this end, the Council of Ministers approved in 2020, at the request of the Spain’s Ministry of Science and Innovation, to authorize the Institute of Carlos III (ISCIII) the call for grants for ISCIII Platforms to support R&D&I in Biomedicine and Health Sciences, as part of the development of the Strategic Action in Health 2017-2020.

Among these, the newly created Biobanks and Biomodels Platform will manage biological samples of disease through the coordination of supply services including, also, conventional samples through virtual biobanks. In turn, the Platform will work on the development of services in the field of organoids, animal models and 3D tissue printing.
