GAEM Foundation: prize-winner in the sixth ‘Solidarity Territories’ awards ceremony

The GAEM Foundation was recognised in the sixth edition of BBVA’s and the Fundació Antigues Caixes Catalanes (FACC) 'Solidarity Territories' awards ceremony, winning a €6,000 donation for its "QUEREMOS curarnos. Esclerosis Múltiple" [WE WANT to get cured. Multiple Sclerosis] initiative. This project aims to accelerate the transfer of therapeutic solutions through its Project Accelerator programme, speeding up treatment accessibility to multiple sclerosis patients and helping to improve patient quality of life and to cure the disease.

The Multiple Sclerosis Project Accelerator is the name of the vehicle created by the GAEM Foundation to promote medical innovation. Its aim is to help small biotechnology and biopharmaceutical companies to speed up the time between the basic research being carried out and the treatments finally reaching the patient.

The bank BBVA and the ‘Fundación Antiguas Cajas Catalanas’ (FACC) “Solidarity Territories” programme supports various projects carried out by non-profit social entities around Spain, which are sponsored and voted for by the bank’s employees in Catalonia. 31 of the 137 shortlisted projects for this edition were selected to receive an overall donation of €185,000, with an estimated 185,000 people due to benefit from it.

The bank handed out 31 prizes in the award ceremony held in Barcelona on 5 February. In this edition, BBVA’s territorial director for Catalonia, Xavier Llinares, highlighted the great work carried out by these entities, and thanked the commitment of the bank’s employees to these initiatives.
