Director General of the PCB, Màrius Rubiralta, awarded the Narcís Monturiol Prize

Yesterday, the Government of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Autonomous Government of Catalonia) announced the recipients of this year’s Narcís Monturiol Prizes for scientific and technologic merit. These include two institutions and 12 scientists, among whom is Màrius Rubiralta, Director General of the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB, Barcelona Science Park) and full professor of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutic Chemistry of the Universitat de Barcelona, (UB, University of Barcelona).

Through the Dept. of Universities, Research and Information Society (DURSI), the Generalitat has awarded Màrius Rubiralta for his teaching and research activities and for his dedication to the development of innovative scientific policies.

Dr. Rubiralta is the principal researcher of the Peptidomimetics and Bioactive Heterocycle () group, located in the PCB. He has performed research into the synthesis of natural and pharmaceutical piperidinic compounds. With respect to scientific policy, he has made an outstanding contribution to the organization and coordination of Catalan research as head of the Dept. of Pharmacology and Therapeutic Chemistry (1988-90), vice-president of the Health Sciences Division (1991-93) and vice-rector for Research of the UB (1993-2001); a post from which he promoted the PCB project. In addition, the Generalitat has also awarded the following UB researchers: Marià Alemany, full professor of the Department of Nutrition and Bromatology and Research Director of the company Oleoyl-Estone Developments ; Isidre Ferrer, full professor of the Dept. of Cellular Biology and Pathological Anatomy; and Joan Solà, full professor of the Dept. of Catalan Philology.

The Narcís Monturiol prize was established in 1982 to award individuals and organisations that have made an exceptional contribution to the scientific and technological progress of Catalonia.
