Dídac Ramírez takes up office as the new rector of the UB

Dídac Ramírez, who was elected rector of the UB on 11th November, took up office at 9 a.m. on 27th November in a ceremony presided over by: the Catalan Councillor for Innovation, Universities and Enterprise, Josep Huguet; the Catalan Commissioner for Universities and Research, Blanca Palmada; and the Spanish Secretary for Universities, Màrius Rubiralta. Also present at the event were the outgoing acting Rector, Josep Samitier, and the president of the Board of Trustees of the UB, Joaquim Coello.


The new rector of the UB, Dídac Ramírez Sarrió (Barcelona, 1946) won 53.45% of the weighted vote in the second round of voting, and thereby obtained the majority necessary to be named Rector.

Prof. Ramírez graduated in Philosophy and Education from the UB and obtained his doctorates from the UB in Economics and Business Studies, and in Philosophy and Education. He has been a Professor since 1990. During his career, Prof. Ramírez has been Vice-dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies (1984-1989) and Vice-rector for Administration and Finance (1990-1994). Furthermore, he was president the Catalan Society of Philosophy, which is affiliated to the Institute of Catalan Studies (2001-2006), and he was also the Treasurer of FC Barcelona (2003). He is currently the director of the Department of Mathematics for Economics Finance and Actuarial Studies at the UB, and a tenured academic of the Royal Spanish Academy of Financial and Economic Studies (2002).

At the UB, Prof. Ramírez also heads the research group, Research into Financial and Uncertainty Analysis (IAFI) and is a member of the Consolidated Teaching Innovation Group, New Methods for Teaching and Learning Mathematics for Finance and Actuarial Studies.
