Conference on imaging techniques applied to research with laboratory animals

To contribute to the rational and ethical use of research animals, the Animal Research Centre at the PCB () and the Animal Facilities at the Spanish National Cancer Centre () have organized a conference on non invasive techniques for use on experimental animals in order to obtain images in vivo. The conference will be held on Friday 26 November in the PCB Auditorium (c/Baldiri Reixac, 4-6).

The integration of the results from several imaging techniques provides information that will facilitate a more precise diagnosis and the choice of the most appropriate treatment. In the case of laboratory animals, which are essential for biomedical research and for the development of new drugs, there are few instruments with the capacity to provide conclusive images. In this context, specialists participating in the conference will explain a number of techniques to obtain images, such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (RMN), positron emission tomography (PET) or computerized axial tomography (CAT), among others, and will present a practical example of the joint use of the same.
