El Grup de Recerca Anàlisi Quantitativa Regional de l’Institut de Recerca d’Economia Aplicada (AQR-IREA) –entitat associada al Parc Científic Barcelona– liderarà el projecte SEARCH (Sharing Knowledge Assets: Interegionally Cohesive Neighborhoods) dins el setè Programa Marc de la Unió Europea. Fins ara, el Grup AQR-IREA havia encapçalat el Projecte Actius Intangibles i Creixement Econòmic Regional (IAREG), que ja ha finalitzat i que també es va dur a terme dins el setè Programa Marc europeu.

El Parlament Europeu ha signat un acord amb el Grup de Recerca Anàlisi Quantitativa Regional (AQR-IREA) de l’Institut de Recerca d’Economia Aplicada (IREA) de la UB, l’Institut Alemany de Recerca Econòmica, amb seu a Berlín i l’Institut Universitari Europeu, amb seu a Florència, per dur a terme estudis en temes concrets en els àmbits econòmic i monetari.

Investigadors del Grup d’Anàlisi Quantitativa Regional de l’ Institut de Recerca d Economia Aplicada (AQR-IREA) de la UB han elaborat l’estudi “Sobreeducació, educació no formal i salaris: evidència per a Espanya”, publicat per la Fundación de las Cajas de Ahorros (FUNCAS). Entre les dades de l’informe, s’assenyala que el percentatge de treballadors sobreeducats i infraeducats a l’Estat és del 24 % i el 32 %. L’IREA és un institut de recerca vinculat al Parc Científic Barcelona –com a entitat associada– que va néixer al 2005 per aglutinar un elevat nombre d’investigadors (un total d’uns 60) de tres grups de recerca consolidats per la Generalitat de Catalunya: Anàlisi Quantitativa Regional, Risc en Finances i Assegurances, i Govern i Mercats. Els investigadors del Departament d’Econometria, Estadística i Economia Espanyola de la UB Sandra Nieto i Raul Ramos, autors de l’estudi, apunten la possibilitat que la xifra de sobreeducats pot ser conseqüència de la peculiaritat de l’estructura educativa espanyola, amb una proporció d’universitaris superior a la majoria de països de l’OCDE i, en canvi, amb un mercat laboral que no ha generat llocs de treball que requereixin aquest nivell educatiu.

A report in which the AQR-IREA has collaborated indicates that the creation of companies is growing in Catalonia Blog Post

Catalonia is the first autonomous community to launch a pioneer instrument, the IDEM (Business Demography Indicators), which has a three month periodicity and aims to analyse business structure and demography. The approach and methodology of this new tool has been developed through collaboration between the Department of Labor and the UB’s Regional Quantitative Analysis research group of the Institute of Research in Applied Economics (AQR-IREA), an entity affiliated with the Barcelona Science Park. According to data from the , the net creation of companies in Catalonia has grown by 0.4% in this second trimester for the first time in three years; specifically 25,029 companies have been created and 22,397 have been closed down. The report also reveals that of the 619,678 companies that are presently in Catalonia, 94% are microcompanies.

The Office of International Research Projects (OPIR), a mixed unit of the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation (FBG)–located at the Barcelona Science Park- and the University of Barcelona (UB), has managed the project titled “Assets and Regional Economic Growth”,IAREG), which analyses the function of intangible assets –such as human capital, mobility of researchers and business initative- in the generation of innovation and economic growth. The results of this project have been presented this month and, amongst other conclusions, the importance of stimulating academic commercialisation efforts is underscored.

The AQR-IREA Research Group of the Institute of Applied Economics (AQR-IREA) of the University of Barcelona has just published a study on the assessment of active employment policies of the Occupational Employment Service of Catalonia (SOC). The objective of this study is to establish the basis to enable the performance of periodic evaluations of the SOC’s programmes, as the body responsible for the occupational employment policies of Catalonia.

The Regional Quantitative Analysis research group (AQR-IREA) of the University of Barcelona- an organisation associated to the Barcelona Science Park- has been selected to carry out the European Union project entitled «Knowledge, innovation and territory », under the framework of the European Spatial Planning Observation Network. The AQR-IREA group will work in collaboration with other research groups from universities such as the Polytechnic Institute of Milan, the London School of Economics, the CRENoS Italian research centre (Sardenya) or the University of Cardiff.

The AQR-IREA group presents a study on ” The impact of the renovation construction work carried out in the Gran Via and Plaza Europa” Blog Post

The UB Regional Quantitative Analysis Research Group of the Research Institute of Applied Economics (AQR-IREA), an organization linked to the Barcelona Science Park, has conducted a study titled “Economic impact of the renovation construction work carried out in the Gran Via and Plaza Europa of Hospitalet”. The report, assigned by the Consortium for the Renovation of the Gran Via of Hospitalet, has described, on the one hand, the effects derived from urbanization and construction of the Plaza Europa and, on the other, the effects deriving from the square’s future economic and residential activity. In order to assess these effects, the total economic impact of previous actions on four key variables has been estimated. These variables are, in macroeconomic terms: production, gross value added, wage earners and employment.

The European Economy. Economic Papers journal, published by the European Commission Directorate General of Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN), has published the study “The diffusion and adoption of innovation in the internal market” written by Jordi Suriñach, Gabio Manca and Resina Moreno, from the Regional Quantitative Analysis (AQR) research group of the Research Institute of Applied Economics of the UB (IREA)-an organisation that is associated to the Barcelona Science Park – and by Corinne Autant-Bernard and Nadie Massard, from the Centre de Recherches Economiques from of the Université de Saint-Étienne (CREUSET).

Celebration of the 3rd World Conference of Spatial Econometrics, organized by the AQR-IREA Blog Post

From July 8 to July 10, the School of Economics and Business of the University of Barcelona (UB) will host the 3rd World Conference of Spatial Econometrics, organized by the Regional Quantitative Analysis research group (AQR) of the Research Institute of Applied Economics (IREA), linked to the Barcelona Science Park. The inauguration of this conference –which will take place July 9 at 9 a.m. in the school’s Magna Auditorium- will be presented by the dean Elisenda Paluzie; the Generalitat’s councilor of Economics and Finances, Antoni Castells; the president of the Spatial Econometrics Association, Giuseppe Arbia, and the UB professor Jordi Suriñach, a member of the AQR-IREA and president of the local committee of the Spatial Econometrics Association.
