9th Blood Drive at the PCB

Next Thursday November 4, the Blood and Tissue Bank (BST) of the Generalitat de Catalunya, is hosting the 9th Blood Drive at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB). Anybody who wishes to donate blood will be able to do so at the mobile unit that will be set up in front of the Helix Building (Baldiri Reixac, 15). Blood extractions will be performed between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Donated blood will be used by public and private medical centers to carry out surgical interventions, cancer treatments, organ transplants and transfusions.

In 2009 the Blood and Tissue Bank obtained a total of 282,381 blood donations in Catalonia and 11,614 plasma donations, of which 188,186 (66.64%) has been performed in mobile units, and 94,195 (33.35%) in permanent centers. The mean index of donations obtained in the campaigns was 36 donations per sessions, a 3.9% increase with respect to 2008.
