The PCB and CatalunyaCaixa invite citizens to come do research at CX La Pedrera

The sixth edition of Do Research!, a series of workshops where the public will be able to participate in experiments, will start this Saturday, November 15th at CX. These workshops are organized by the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) with the support of the Social Welfare Programme of CatalunyaCaixa, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Innovation by means of the FECYT and the Biotechnology Reference Network of Catalonia (XRB).

For the sixth consecutive year, researchers from the Institute of Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) –based at the PCB- and from the University of Barcelona will move part of their laboratory to this emblematic space with the aim of promoting interaction with the public and giving people the opportunity to participate in some of their experiments, with the same instruments and materials used in their daily lab work.

This year, there are four different proposals that will enable the public to learn about the phases followed in the development of a new drug; analyze different DNA samples to identify the perpetrator of a crime; gain deeper insight into genetic engineering techniques and develop a new drug to treat Alzheimer’s disease.

Although these workshops are aimed especially at young people, they are open to all ages. The activity is free and will take place every Saturday in November from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at CX La Pedrera. The same workshops will also be offered on weekdays for the educational community at the PCB’s OpenLab.

DoResearch! is part of the program “Research in Society” of the Barcelona Science Park, which organizes 120 scientific dissemination activities in which nearly 6,000 people participate each year. Its objective is to bring the world of research closer to society, to improve the scientific culture of people and to encourage scientific vocations amongst the youth.

The DoResearch! workshops are taking place for the sixth year in a row with the support of the Social Welfare Programme of CatalunyaCaixa within the R+D+I intervention line that is carried out by the organization to promote research, technological development, innovation and technological modernization.
