La Pedrera acull la inauguració de la 7a edició de la Fira «Recerca en Directe»

On April 15 at 11 a.m., the 7th edition of the «Live Research»Fair, organized by the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) with the support of the Obra Social (Social Work Division) of the Caixa de Catalunya bank, was officially inaugurated at the Pedrera building. The ceremony was attended by the director of the Obra Social of the Caixa de Catalunya, Miquel Perdiguer; the rector of the University of Barcelona, Dídac Ramírez; the director general of the Barcelona Science Park, Fernando Albericio; the president of the Catalan Society of Biology, Jaume Reventós, and the commissioner of the Fair, Rosina Malagrida, Head of the Dissemination of Science division of the Barcelona Science Park


During the event, once institutional speeches had finalized, Fernando Albericio proceeded to present the “Awards for the Best Research Projects in Secondary Schools’09”, which recognized the three best research projects of secondary school students who had conducted part of their research at the Barcelona Science Park. These awards –each worth 300 euros in the form of laboratory material this year- are granted annually by the Barcelona Science Park, with the support of the Obra Social of the Caixa de Catalunya bank, and are framed within the program , which offers secondary school students the possibility of receiving help from a PCB tutor for a year, as well as practical sessions at the Park’s laboratories to develop their research project.

The winners of the 7th edition were: Pablo Ruíz, of the IES Montserrat, for his project “Nanotechnology and Regenerative Biomedicine: Bone Tissue Engineering”, headed by the IES tutor, Mª Concepción Sala, and by the PCB tutor, Johan Gustavsson; Marc Ramírez, of the Aula Escola Europea, for his project “Cancer uncovered. Study of tumour behaviour in Drosophila melanogaster”, headed by the IES tutor, Maria Calsamiglia and the PCB tutor, Elisabeth Castellanos; and Laia Alcaraz, of the Escola IPSI, for her work “Superconductors, a cold world”, headed by the IES tutor, Cristina Borrás and the PCB tutor, Joan Josep Roa. The three winning projects were exhibited at a stand at the Fair.
