“Una historia del cine a través de ocho maestros”, new book by Josep M. Caparrós Lera

Josep M. Caparrós Lera, professor at the Dept. of Contemporary History of the Universitat de Barcelona (UB, University of Barcelona) and director of the, located at the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB, Barcelona Science Park), has published a new book which offers a comprehensive presentation of the history of world cinema through a selection of eight film producers. Entitled "Una historia del cine a través de ocho maestros" (Ediciones Internacionales Universitarias, Madrid 2003, 230 pages), the author relates his personal encounters with these producers during the 70s and 80s when he was a film critic in publications such as Mundo and Cinestudio.


Through Fritz Lang, Josep Caparrós addresses expressionism and police and gangster films, and through the film producer King Vidor, the golden years of Hollywood and social cinema. Neo-realism and European grandeur is relived through Federico Fellini, and traditional comedy through the Frenchman Jacques Tatí. In addition, classic Spanish cinema is represented by Luis García Berlanga, the French ” Nouvelle Vague” by François Truffaut, Eastern European cinema by Roman Polanski and the North American response by the work of Robert Altman.
