The Park hosts a sustainable art exhibition about the glass used in research

Today, October 20th, the “Exhibition on the artistic capacities and reuse of glass”, which has been promoted by the Commission for Equality and Social Action (CIAS) of the Scientific and Technological Centers of the University of Barcelona (CCiTUB), and which can be visited at the entrance of the Cluster II Building of the Barcelona Science Park until June 2023, starts coinciding with the ending of the International Year of the Glass.

The aim of the Exhibition is to show a case of success in the reuse of scientific materials used in research support infrastructures. The collaboration between the CIAS and the Escola d’Art Municipal Artífex (Canyelles), has made possible the realization of the artistic project, conceived and led by PhD. Marta Taulés, current president of the CIAS and specialized technician of the Molecular Interaction Analysis laboratory.

The mastery of the artist Sandra Moneny Pedrola, as well as the participation of the artisan Montserrat Noguerol i Peiró and Marta Taulés herself, has made possible the creation of the exhibited pieces, resulting from the reuse for artistic purposes of part of the glass material from the Transmission Electron Microscopy laboratories of the CCiTUB. In order to shape this material, the glass has been treated with different fusion techniques to create unique pieces that highlight the great creativity and skill of the artists.

Unique pieces of great sculptural value have emerged from this initiative, produced with different glass melting techniques and with a butane and oxygen torch. The pieces, exhibited in a showcase at the entrance of Cluster II, have been identified by title, authorship, material and technique used.

This activity aims to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals (ODS 2030), encouraging the recycling and reuse of waste material from CCiTUB equipment as well as the connections between different disciplines and sectors of society.

The Barcelona Science Park continues to bet on offering a window to art in its facilities and promoting the reuse or recycling of materials. You can consult other artistic projects linked to the Park at this link [+].
