The Barcelona Science Park participates at the «Science Fair»,

This upcoming weekend, 13th and 14th of June, the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) will be actively participating again this year, and for the third consecutive time, at the «Science Fair», organised by the Cultural Institute of Barcelona (ICUB), which will take place at the Parc de la Ciutadella of Barcelona. PCB will be offering an activity entitled «Proteïniza't!», carried out by the Diffusion of Science Department, with the collaboration of the physicist and scientific communicator Dani Jiménez, together with Judith Linacero, a researcher from the Crystallography Automated Core Facility at the Barcelona Science Park, supported by the ICUB and the Scientific Factory.

The activity proposed this year by the PCB will start off with an amazing welcome show led by Dani Jimènez and will evolve around two experimental workshops, demonstrations and dynamite dialogs on the part of the lecturer and the researcher who will both be explaining in a leisured but educational manner- how proteins are studied inside scientific laboratories with the aim of designing new drugs to fight diseases. The first workshop will include the experiment entitled «Four eggs for a researcher», followed by a staged dialog about what proteins are, what function they play in our body and how they are manufactured. The second workshop will consist of an experiment entitled “Gene multiplication”, which will demonstrate -by means of a chain reaction- how genes and bacteria multiply through geometric growth. The workshop will run simultaneously with a pleasant talk between both presenters whom will unveil to the participants all the secrets in protein research. The activity will finish with an spectacular domino effect show.

The activity will take place outdoors at stall number 18 installed in front of the Umbracle. There will be three sessions held on Saturday at 11.55h, at 17.35h and at 19.30h; and two sessions on Sunday at 12h and at 14.20h.

The «Science Fair» will include more than 70 free admission activities for all age groups and will feature the participation of several institutions, museums, organisations, universities and research centres- dedicated to explore, from a leisure as well as educational approach, several different scientific disciplines addressed to the general population, with special emphasis being placed on young adults and families.

The party proposed this year –by means of exhibits, experimental demonstrations, routes, games, shows and talks led by experts- a journey through time, from the origin of the universe and the formation of stars, to the development of life on Earth, as tribute to Charles Darwin, Galileu Galilei and Narcís Monturiol, coinciding with this year’s anniversaries. The activities will be open on Saturday, 13th of June, from 11.00h to 23.00h; and on Sunday the 14th of June, from 11.00h to 15.00h and will take place in 21 different stalls set up throughout the Parc de la Ciutadella located on the Passeig dels Til·lers and at the Zoology and Geology buildings of the Natural Science Museum, the Hibernacle, and the Umbracle.
