Presentation of the program «Tutoring program for Secondary Schools» 2012-2013

The presentation of the «» was held yesterday at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB). This initiative, organized by the Technical Directorate of Public Engagement in Science at the PCB, in collaboration with CatalunyaCaixa- is aimed at secondary school junior students (11th grade) to give them the possibility of carrying out the practicum of their research in laboratories at the PCB, supervised by a researcher. The deadline for submitting applications is June 1.


The event, attended by a total of sixty teachers, involved the participation of Rosina Malagrida, Technical Director of Public Engagement in Science at PCB; Mireia Bes, Coordinator of the “Tutoring program for Secondary Schools”; Jose Maria Fernandez, researcher at the University Barcelona and coordinator of the program tutors: Elisenda Buti, researcher at IRB Barcelona; and David Ramos, researcher at the Experimental Toxicology and Ecotoxicology Platform at PCB. All representatives shared their experiences from previous editions with the participants.

During the presentation , information was provided regarding the operation of this project, as well as the areas of research of the researchers that will be acting as tutors this year, since the specific areas of research for which tutoring may be provided are subject to the PCB researchers that are taking part in the tutoring program this year. These areas are: toxicology, cell signaling, protein structure and dynamics, nanoscience, nanotechnology and nanotechnology, ecology of rivers, and cancer genomics, heterogenic and polygenic diseases, combinatorial chemistry and microscopy.

This 8th edition of “Research in Secondary Schools” announces the call for 40 collaboration scholarships to support 40 research projects carried out at secondary schools. In addition to benefiting from the help and advice from the Barcelona Science Park, secondary students will also be tutored by their secondary school teacher, who is ultimately responsible for the project.
