At 9 o'clock on Thursday 29th April, in the Europe Hall of the European Commission Office in Barcelona (Pg de Gràcia, 90), the results from the RTD Workaló research project on the Romany community will be presented. The study highlights the need to develop policies that are more inclusive of cultural minority groups in general, and in particular the Romany community, in order to overcome ethnic discrimination that occurs in schools and in the work place. In addition, the study emphasizes the necessity for institutional recognition of the Romany community on the part of European and state institutions. Financed by the VI European Framework Programme, the study has been coordinated by the Centre for Romany Studies (CEG), part of the at the (UB, University of Barcelona), which is located in the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB, Barcelona Science Park).

This event will also include the dissemination of a guide of proposals for the social inclusion of the Romany community in Spain and Europe, work groups with political representatives, administrators, representatives from the research community and Romany associations, and a conference by Julio Vargas and Ramón Flecha, directors of the CEG and CREA, respectively. This presentation will address the methodology used in the project, known as communicative methodology, which includes the participation of the Romany community in all the research process. Finally, the closing act will be given by Emilia Clavería, president of the association of Romany women, Drom Kotar Mestípen, and member of the advisory council of the project.
