The Barcelona Science Park participates in the “Inventiveness Party” Blog Post

Next Saturday, May 16, the “Inventiveness Party” will be held at the Auditorium of the Vertex Building of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. This initiative is framed within the programme “« Enginycat! », created by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation, and aims to recognise the talent and effort of 100 young Catalan secondary students who received first prize in 2008 for their projects relating to science or technology. The three secondary students who won the “Research at Secondary Schools Awards”, granted annually by the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) with the support of the Obra Social Caixa Catalunya, are included amongst the winners.

The IC3 organises a debate on climate change with internationally renowned experts Blog Post

A debate on “Climate Change: new challenges for the XXI century”, organised by the Catalan Institute for Climate Sciences (), based at the Barcelona Science Park, was held on the 13 May at the Royal Academy of Sciences. The objective of the event was to establish a space for debate and reflection concerning the effects of global warming on water, energy, food and nutrition, tourism, and population’s health, especially in what concerns the proliferation of infectious diseases.

A The.Si.M.Bio.Sys. Group study reveals un precedented data on circadian rhythms Blog Post

Fluctuations in light intensity allow restoring the regularity of circadian rhythms. This is the main conclusion of the work carried out by Javier Buceta, group leader of (Theoretical and In Silico Modelling of Biological Systems) from the Co.S.Mo Lab –based at the Barcelona Science Park– and Antoni Díez-Noguera, dean at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Barcelona and group leader of Chronobiology at the Department of Physiology of the said faculty. Ekkehard Ullner and J. García Ojalvo, from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) have also participated in the work. The study, that has been published today, 6th of May, in Biophysical Journal, under the title “Noise-induced coherence in multicellular circadian clocks” (doi:10.1016/j.bpj.2009.02.031) appears on the front page of this journal.

PCB to host the workshop entitled «Tissue Dynamics and Growth» of the European Science Foundation Blog Post

On the 7th and 8th of May, the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) will be hosting a workshop on «Tissue Dynamics and Growth». The event has been organised by Javier Buceta, head of the Theoretical and In Silico Modelling of Biological Systems Group ()–that is part of the Co.S.Mo. LAB Unit (Computer Simulation & Modelling) based at PCB– and professors from the University of Barcelona, J. Casademunt and F. Sagués. This workshop has been sponsored by the European Science Foundation (ESF) –under the supervision of the FuncDyn Programme– the Physics Faculty of the University of Barcelona and the Barcelona Science Park.

The PCB Theatre Group will be performing a dramatised reading of the piece “After Darwin” Blog Post

Coinciding with the 200th Birth Anniversary of the English naturalist Charles Darwin, and the 150th anniversary since the publication of his book “The origin of species”, the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) Theatre Group will be performing a dramatised reading of the piece “After Darwin”, tomorrow Thursday, 19th of March, at 17.00 hours at the PCB’s Fèlix Serratosa Hall (Baildiri Reixac, 10) . The play, written by US-born writter, Timberlaker Wertenbaker, who now lives in London permanently– will feature the acting talents of Isabel Usón, Xavier Gomis-Rüth, Jesús Purroy, Xavier Carpena and Celerino Abad-Zapatero.

La Fundació Bosch i Gimpera has signed an agreement with the Arts Santa Mònica Blog Post

The University of Barcelona (UB), through the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation () –located at the Barcelona Science Park- has signed an agreement with the centre to collaborate in art, science and communication projects. Arts Santa Mònica wishes to broaden citizens’ perspective on culture using a multidisciplinary and contemporary approach by opening research laboratories to any type of artistic creativity that is seeking new contents and themes, creation tools or languages linked to the world of science.

The Sagrera neighboourhood of Barcelona pays tribute to Jordi Sabater Pi Blog Post

Last Sunday, February 15, a homage ceremony was held in the Ivanow Building in honor of Jordi Jordi Sabater Pi, director of the , located at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB). This tribute was paid by the Sagrera, the neighborhood where he has resided since his return from Guinea 40 years ago. The ceremony –which coincided with the 4th anniversary of the constitution of the Sagrera Foundation and the inauguration of new spaces in the Ivanow Building, a cultural and creation factory- was organized by the Neighbors Association, the Entities Council, the Celebrations and Events Committee, the Ivanow Building and the Sagrera Foundation, with the collaboration of the Catalan Institute of Human Paleoecology and Social Evolution (IPHES).

Applications are invited for the second edition of the PCB research training grant program Blog Post

The Management of the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) has called for applications for the second edition of the PCB pre-doctoral grant program. The aim of the program is to promote the training of new researchers. The grants, which are awarded for a period of 2 years, may be followed by a 2-year working contract at the PCB. This represents a major advantage for doctoral students when it comes to finding a place in the employment market later on.
