Albert Ardèvol wins the ‘SusChem Young Chemical Researchers’ Blog Post

Albert-Ardèvol, who carried out his PhD in the Computational Modeling and Simulation Laboratory () at the Barcelona Science Park, just won the ‘‘ in the category PREDOC category for his study ‘The molecular mechanism of enzymatic glycosyl transfer with retention of configuration: evidence for a short-lived oxocarbenium ion-like species‘, published in 2011 in Angewandte Chemie (), one of the most prestigious journals in chemistry.

Presentation of the program «Tutoring program for Secondary Schools» 2012-2013 Blog Post

The presentation of the «» was held yesterday at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB). This initiative, organized by the Technical Directorate of Public Engagement in Science at the PCB, in collaboration with CatalunyaCaixa- is aimed at secondary school junior students (11th grade) to give them the possibility of carrying out the practicum of their research in laboratories at the PCB, supervised by a researcher. The deadline for submitting applications is June 1.

The Barcelona Science Park and the CatalunyaCaixa Foundation inaugurated today, the 10th edition of the «» Fair, which will take place on 24, 25 and 26 April at La Pedrera in order to exhibit the various projects carried out at research centers and institutes in Barcelona to bring research closer to the citizens, promote careers in this field and contribute to scientific understanding and awareness in society.

Presentation of the UB’s Virtual Museum at the University of Uppsala Blog Post

Tomorrow, June 18, the University of Barcelona (UB) will present its Museu Virtual at the University of Uppsala (Sweden) within the framework of the XI Universeum Network Meeting, which is titled “University Heritage: Present and Future” this year. The UB’s Virtual Museum is the first university virtual museum in Spain, and has been created with the aim of disseminating the cultural heritage of the UB. The project encompasses over 250 pieces that demonstrate the vast disciplinary and patrimonial wealth of the UB, and has been initially organized in nine collections, including the Documentation Centre of the and the herbarium of BCN of the Documentation Centre of Plant Biodiversity , both based at the Barcelona Science Park. A second phase will introduce new elements in already existing ones and the number of collections will be increased.

Applications are invited for the third edition of the PCB research training grant program Blog Post

The Management of the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) has called for applications for the third edition of the PCB pre-doctoral grant program. The aim of the program is to promote the training of new researchers. The grants, which are awarded for a period of 2 years, may be followed by a 2-year working contract at the PCB. This represents a major advantage for doctoral students when it comes to finding a place in the employment market later on.

The scientific campaign of marine geology that is coordinated –onboard the Hesperides , an oceanographic research ship – by Miquel Canals, head of the Consolidated Marine Geosciences Research Group () of the University of Barcelona, located at the Barcelona Science Park, aims to chart the sea floor and study the functioning of Mediterranean marine ecosystems. Within the framework of this scientific campaign, the oceanographic ship will head towards the coastlines of Castelldefels, Garraf, Sitges and Vilanova i la Geltrú, where the research team will chart the Foix underwater canyon, which is composed of several valleys, some of which are buried and others active, and location where the Llobregat river flowed into millions of years ago.

Closing ceremony of “Spend the Summer at the Park’09” Blog Post

The closing ceremony of the practical programme , organized every year by the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), was held at 12.00 hours on Wednesday 23 September. The programme is directed to students in the second cycle and aims to offer them the opportunity to participate in some of the research projects that are being carried out in the groups, institutes and businesses that are now based in the PCB, with the purpose of bringing them closer to the world of research.

40 secondary school students will carry out research at the Barcelona Science Park Blog Post

This year a group of secondary school students from 40 schools in Catalonia will conduct their 2009-2010 school year research project in collaboration with researchers from the Barcelona Science Park (PCB). This collaboration is possible thanks to the programme, promoted by the Science Diffusion Area of the PCB together with the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) and the support of the Social Welfare Department of the Caixa de Catalunya. The objective of this programme is to promote research in the educational community, as well as to encourage scientific vocations amongst the youth.

The Bosch i Gimpera Foundation participates in «Day of the Entrepreneur» Blog Post
