GAEM Foundation launches the campaign ‘Climb with us, support research in MS’

GAEM Foundation, based in the Barcelona Science Park, accompanies people affected by multiple sclerosis (MS) on their daily ‘climbs’, while promoting biomedical research to defeat this disease. In accordance with this mission, the entity has just launched the solidarity campaign ‘Climb with us, support research in MS‘, championed by mountaineer Pablo Tornil, who this November will travel to Ama Dablam, in the Himalayas, to face the challenge of crowning the mountain.

The money raised from this campaign, which will close at the end of the year, will go to the startup Tensor Medical, supported by the GAEM Foundation (Group of People Affected by Multiple Sclerosis) and specialized in artificial intelligence, which works to improve the detection of brain lesions in magnetic resonance images of affected people. A better diagnosis in earlier stages allows treatments to begin earlier and, in this way, significantly improve the quality of life of patients.

Multiple sclerosis, also known as the “disease of a thousand faces” because it presents with a thousand different symptoms, affects more than 55,000 people in Spain. Three quarters of them are women. It is the second cause of disability among young adults: the first symptoms appear before the age of 40, in two out of three cases, and one in every 4 people diagnosed is under 20 years old. Today, the origin of this disease is not known, nor is its cure.
