BCN Health Booster Accelerator, on Betevé La Família Barris programme
The La Família Barris programme, on Betevé, devoted its latest edition to the science and research being done in Barcelona. The programme showed several projects, including the BCN Health Booster, an initiative promoted by the Science Park, the University of Barcelona and the Barcelona City Council, with collaboration from Barcelona Activa and support from Biocat. The programme also showed the Vall d’Hebron Campus, Institute for Research in Biomedicine, Alba Synchrotron and the Amodi (love/hate) project, plus the Barcelona 2021 City and Science Biennial.
BCN Health Booster is an accelerator for start-ups and spin-offs in the health sector. On the programme, Park Director Maria Terrades explained that this project aims to help companies that are starting out, which is particularly necessary among start-ups that do research in the health sector and need labs and services that aren’t easy to come by. The Park Director also explained the grants provided through the accelerator: to lease the space and for mentorship and training in the fields each company needs.
The report also featured two of the eleven companies that are part of the BCN Health Booster programme. Dan*na Artificial Nature Founder and CEO Xavier Marín explained that being part of the accelerator helps them better understand the rules of the game, making them more efficient and competitive. Mimark Co-founder and CEO Marina Rigau highlighted the privilege of being surrounded by other companies in the sector and being able to interact. Terrades also highlighted that it is a great opportunity for Barcelona to have organisations like the PCB and BCN Health Booster, which are making it a benchmark in a sector that creates quality jobs.
